In the early years at Shure, employees took the opportunity at Company parties to poke fun at the men and women in management. “Shure Shenanigans” were elaborate productions, fully scripted and performed by employees, featuring skits and musical numbers. For a twist on the usual format, one year the executives of the Company performed the employee-written skits. One act featured a group of employees trying to get in to see an executive, only to be told he was “in conference.” A sneak peak at the conference revealed Mr. Shure studying a bottle of hair tonic, another executive playing with a yo-yo, and a few others engrossed in a game of dice.
“These were not only fun events, they helped relieve the tension that we all felt in trying to meet the production requirements of the war and our concern for what was happening overseas,” explained Jack Berman, former Sales Manager. “I think those shows also reveal how close we all felt within the Company and the respect that we had for the work we were doing.”
